Never under estimate your audience
Never under estimate your audience

Know your audience and do your research.

At a recent exhibition at a local school, I submitted work for display and sale.
The local school was looking for local artists to display and sell their work. The exhibition would be held over a couple of days plus an open evening for the artists and their guest. A month or so earlier I had submitted a list of four abstract photographs I thought would suit this small school. On the evening before the exhibition we set out our displays and it was here that I realised that I had under estimated the exhibition goals. Not only was this a very well organised and well funded exhibition the target audience was not aimed at the school parents per-say as this was a private school which was looking to hold high profile events. This was evident by the quality and the price tags of the work being submitted by those artists who had done their research and considered what their audience would be looking for and the objectives of the school.  Needless to say none of my images sold that weekend and I learned a valuable lesson. Do your research before you submit your work and make sure your work is correct for the surroundings it is being displayed in and “NEVER UNDER ESTIMATE YOUR AUDIENCE”.
